GANSEYBITCHES! Big Shot of the Week
February 7, 2008
Winner: South Carolina’s Dominique Archie
Facing a two-to-tie, three-to-win situation on the road against Ole Miss, decided to go for the win. The sophomore out of Augusta, GA, mastered the pressure as he caught an awkward pass at the top of the key and froze for a split second. The defender froze and Dominique pulled up as his teammate Devan Downey put up the number one sign and screamed “GANSEYBITCHES!” for Dominique. A three-pointer to win a road conference game; Michael F. Gansey would be proud.
2nd Place: Ben McCauley, NC State
No, you know what, Ben made an unbelievable play but someone just e-mailed in and said let me know that Ellie Manning screamed “GANSEYBE-AATCHES!” as the ball was in the air to Plaxico Burress during the Giants game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. The e-mailer wanted to know if it was acceptable to yell the Gansey catchphrase during a football game. The answer is sure. I heard someone yell it during a game of pool last week. You just need to be sure that it is yelled during a game-sealing shot and pronounced correctly. It is not acceptable to pronounce it “be-aatches,” but what can you expect from Ellie? He was fired up and couldn’t believe that for one day his overthrown, floating wounded ducks were being caught by his teammates instead of defensive backs. We salute you Ellie with this 2nd Place GANSEYBITCHES award for your MVP performance in the Super Bowl. Now go eat some more paint chips, you steakhead.
Loser: Taylor Rochestie, Washington State
Taylor, whose has a name, like Cougar, that can also refer to a female, decided to take matters into his own hands after Stanford’s Mitch Johnson made a free-throw to push the lead to two. Taylor drove the ball the length of the court and with two seconds left on the clock, bricked a layup to let down Tee’s Weekly Founder Tee and the entire state of Washington. Hey Taylor, next time the game is on the line maybe you want to get the ball to somebody who doesn’t look like Matt Kuchar. And by Matt Kuchar, I mean someone who is not slow, white, and goofy as hell. But like Marlo Stanfield said to Prop Joe, “its just a thought.”
The Tee’s Weekly Michael F. Gansey Big Shot of the Week title is awarded each week to the biggest shot in college basketball. Michael F. Gansey is one of college basketball's all-time clutch shooters. A pure, lights-out shooter, he was recently selected as one of Tee's Weekly 50 greatest college basketball players of all time. He set the all-time record for three pointers in a game for West Virginia with eight trifectas against Marquette in 2006. He has more career three-pointers at West Virginia than even the great Jerry West. While at WVU Gansey made a habit of hitting three-pointers at critical spots in games and could often be heard taunting his opponents while the ball was in the air by screaming "GANSEYBITCHES!" So, next time you are on the playground and someone shoots a three in your face and yells "GANSEYBITCHES!" you'll know why.
